ALLENTOWN, PA — Siemens VDO Automotive is marking the 10th anniversary of its aftermarket operations in Allentown, Pa.

Since its inception in April 1995, the Siemens VDO Automotive Service & Special Solutions group has grown from seven employees and a 32,000-square-foot warehouse with 450 products to 77 employees, two facilities encompassing more than 64,000-square-feet and more than 4,500 different products.

The Allentown facility started out as strictly a sales and distribution operation. When Siemens AG acquired VDO North America in 2001, the company merged the new business with the Siemens Automotive Group to form Siemens VDO Automotive. In July 2003, the company changed its name to Siemens VDO Automotive Service & Special Solutions.

According to Wolfgang Winzer, vice president and general manager, Siemens VDO Automotive Corp., Service & Special Solutions NAFTA, the Allentown business has grown more than tenfold in the last decade.

“The Lehigh Valley has proven to be a valuable business resource and a great place to work,” said Winzer. “We’ve been able to combine our talented people and industry leading technologies to make the most of what the area has to offer. Even more growth and expansion is planned for the immediate future.”

The Siemens VDO Automotive Service & Special Solutions operation in Allentown now has two locations: a headquarters facility which also houses the company’s sales and marketing and product development departments; and a warehousing/logistics center which is also home to the engineering services, finance, human resources, purchasing and customer service departments. The facility provides products for the automotive aftermarket, performance, marine and special original equipment markets.
