DIAMOND BAR, CA — SEMA is teaming up with Athletes and Entertainers For Kids (AEFK), for a benefit celebrity vs. industry competition. The “Track Attack Challenge” will take place on Saturday, April 3, at the International Auto Salon (IAS) in the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Celebrities and the show’s exhibitor personnel will go head to head in video-game competitions that will be broadcast over an 11-by-20-foot Jumbotron screen on the automotive show’s exhibit floor. The stars and industry personnel will also race radio-controlled cars on a custom-built track on the International Auto Salon show floor.
The names of the celebrities participating in the event have yet to be announced. Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O’Neal is AEFK president, and recording artist Jessica Simpson is AEFK’s Youth Spokesperson.
The International Auto Salon-Los Angeles will also feature two sidebar events to benefit 9-1-1 For Kids, the AEFK program which teaches children how to use 9-1-1- in emergency situations to help save lives and property and to prevent crime.
A two-day swap meet where show attendees can buy parts for their vehicles will be held Saturday-Sunday, April 3-4, the two days that the IAS is open to the car enthusiast crowd. Products offered in this swap meet will include hard-to-find, obsolete, or discontinued, parts. Proceeds from the swap meet will benefit the AEFK program.
A silent auction will be held during all three days of the International Auto Salon, beginning on Friday, April 2, when the show opens to the industry and the media.
Auto Salon-Los Angeles tickets are $15 per person, and are on sale at www.SEMAias.com. Tickets purchased in advance guarantee admission to the show: tickets may also be purchased onsite at the International Auto Salon at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
