Goodyear’s Gingo Retires, Takes Post With Schulman

Joe Gingo, Goodyear’s chief technical officer and the man who helped engineer the tiremaker’s new headquarters deal, is leaving the company to become president and CEO of Akron plastics maker A. Schulman Inc. Gingo, 62, is actually taking retirement from Goodyear after a 41-year career there, most recently as executive vice president of quality systems and chief technical officer, to assume the post with Schulman, the company Gingo’s father once worked for. He has been a member of Schulman’s board since 2000. Replacing Gingo at Goodyear will be Jean-Claude Kihn, who will take over as senior vice president and chief technical officer, effective Jan. 1, 2008. Kihn, 48, is currently general director of Goodyear’s Technical Center in Akron.

Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance Appoints Vice President of Information Technology

Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance has announced the creation of a new position — vice president of information technology. A major role for this new senior management team member will be to lead strategic initiatives that will position the Alliance as an industry leader in technology. Responsibilities will also include interaction with Alliance members and technology vendors to foster long-term relationships that will take the Alliance to the next level. Effective Nov. 1, Dale Hopkins has been appointed to lead the Alliance’s technology initiatives.

Timken Names Business Leaders for New Bearings and Power Transmission Group

Timken Co. has announced five leaders of the businesses within its new Bearings and Power Transmission Group. The company has appointed Michael Connors as president of process industries, J. Ron Menning as president of aerospace and defense, and Daniel Muller as president of distribution and services. In mobile industries, the company named Peter Sproson as vice president of commercial transportation systems and Kenneth Hopkins as vice president of light vehicle systems.

Hayes Lemmerz Names James Yost Executive Vice President

Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. has announced that James Yost has been promoted to the new position of executive vice president and chief financial officer. He previously served the company as vice president, finance and chief financial officer. ThyssenKrupp Budd has agreed, in principle, to sell its North American automotive body and chassis operations to Martinrea International, Inc., of Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Martinrea, a Tier 1 automotive supplier, produces metal parts, assemblies and modules and fluid management systems. The business was sold for approximately $275 million, which consists of $95 million in cash and the remainder in assumed liabilities. Annual sales from the sold operations are approximately $1.25 billion.

Goodyear Promotes Two in Technical Group

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. promoted William Hopkins and Joseph Zekoski to new positions in its technical group. Hopkins, formerly vice president global product marketing and technology planning, was named to the newly created position of vice president of technology and strategic initiatives. Zekoski was named general director of Goodyear’s Luxembourg Technical Center, replacing Jean Bergh who retired after 37 years with the tiremaker.

Timken Appoints Director of Automotive Strategy Development

The Timken Co. announced that Kenneth Hopkins has joined the company as director of automotive strategy development. He will report to Jacqueline Dedo, president – Automotive, and will have responsibility for developing the long-term strategy for the company’s global Automotive Group, which had 2003 net sales of $1.4 billion.
