Schrader Offers Tire Pressure Monitoring For Older Vehicles

According to Schrader, owners of vintage and exotic cars can make use of this technology, and the monitoring will work on almost any vehicle with a top speed of up to 250 km/h (155.343 mph).

Schrader is now offering a retrofit kit for tire pressure monitoring, containing OEM-quality radio sensors for all four wheels and a battery-operated display with wireless control. The kit sells for under 200 (approximately $227 USD).

Schrader - Tire PressureThe company says sensors are not mounted externally on the valves but inside the wheels, providing drivers with the same reliability and quality as factory-fitted systems.

The set is suitable for nearly new cars, older cars and classic cars. According to Schrader, owners of vintage and exotic cars can make use of this technology, and the monitoring will work on almost any vehicle with a top speed of up to 250 km/h (155.343 mph).

While there is always the danger of a sudden puncture or the inconvenience of a slow puncture, even intact tires can lose 0.2 bar pressure within as little as three months, leading to a 1 percent increase in fuel consumption due to the higher rolling resistance, according to the company. This amount of low pressure also decreases the tire’s service life by up to 50 percent because it is subject to more twisting and therefore higher operating temperatures.

The retrofit kit from Schrader warns the driver when the pressure is too low, and also shows the corresponding value in bar for each individual tire on the LCD display. Tire temperature also is displayed.

The Schrader Tyre Pressure Monitoring kit is available directly here.
