DETROIT — The HMDA Breakfast & Briefing during the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) drew a standing-room-only crowd to hear Tom Plimpton, president of PACCAR Inc.
In his comments to the more than 650 attendees, Plimpton predicted a “robust market” for the heavy-duty sector. He also highlighted the increasing importance of information technology in the sector, noting that PACCAR has invested more than $1 billion in its IT services during the past 10 years.
Plimpton cited radio frequency identification (RFID) as one of the most exciting new technologies in the industry today. “RFID will replace bar codes in the near future,” he said.
The annual HDMA event included many new features this year, made possible with the support of its sponsors: ARCG; ArvinMeritor Inc.; J.D. Power & Associates; Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week; Karmak; MacKay & Co.; Mid-America Trucking Show; Newport Communications; Randall Publishing; R.L. Polk & Co. and Tenneco.
