Pep Boys to Participate in MAP’s Brake Safety Awareness Week

PHILADELPHIA — Pep Boys has announced that it is participating in the Motorist Assurance Program’s (MAP) Brake Safety Awareness Week, taking place Aug. 26–Sept. 1.

During this week-long event, Pep Boys will have informational brake safety brochures available at www.pepboys.com and offer consumers online coupons for free brake inspections.

“Taking care of your brakes is a critical part of keeping your vehicle safe,” said Joe Cirelli, senior vice president of service at Pep Boys. “As we head into the fall season, now is an ideal time to seek a thorough brake inspection.”

Pep Boys recommends drivers have their brake systems inspected, including all brake linings, hardware and hydraulics, if the last inspection occurred more than 15,000 miles or 12 months ago. The hydraulic system should be assessed for leaks and proper operation. "Sponginess" or "drop" in the brake pedal, a tendency for the car to pull to one side when braking, squealing noises coming from the brakes or a drop in the master cylinder’s fluid level all can signify problems.
