AutoZone Board Authorizes Additional $500 Million for Share Buybacks; Announces Agreement with Largest Shareholder

AutoZone’s board of directors has authorized the repurchase of an additional $500 million of the company’s stock, bringing its current unused repurchase authorization to $608 million. Including the additional authorization, the cumulative share repurchase authorization approved by its board since 1998 totals $6.4 billion. The company also has entered into an agreement with its largest shareholder, ESL Investments, setting forth certain agreements concerning ESL’s continued investment in AutoZone.

Gates Corp. to Testify at June 17 Judiciary Committee Hearing on Intellectual Property

Jeffrey Thurnau, patent counsel with Gates Corp. will testify on Tuesday, June 17, before the Senate Judiciary Committee at a hearing entitled “Protecting Consumers by Protecting Intellectual Property.” The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Thurnau will testify on behalf of Gates Corp. and the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). Chrysler Can’t Move Molds Yet, Judge Says

From Detroit Free Press DETROIT — Chrysler LLC will have to negotiate with Dearborn, MI-based supplier Plastech Engineered Products Inc. to move its molds and dies out of the struggling supplier’s plants. A bankruptcy judge decided Tuesday that Chrysler cannot immediately move tooling out of Plastech’s plants because of the protections that Chapter 11 bankruptcy
