AAIA President Promotes Aftermarket to Wall Street Investors

Wall Street investment analysts learned more about the aftermarket and initiatives to grow the industry during the first annual Automotive Aftermarket Conference held last week in New York City. Sponsored by Monarch Research at the Cornell Club in Manhattan, the conference was attended by representatives from JP Morgan Chase, Maynard Capital, Lipton Financial, Blue Harbor Group, SBZ Select, Vardon Partners, Pilot Advisors, Bozhardt Capital and Cantillon Capital. Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), spoke at the event.

Increased Efforts Help Stem Intellectual Property Violations at AAPEX

Show organizers for this year’s Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) reported they were extremely successful in their efforts to crack down on counterfeiters and other intellectual property violators at the recent trade show held in Las Vegas Nov. 2-5. The event featured more than 1,900 exhibitors in the automotive parts and accessories market. A total of 24 cases of suspected intellectual property violations were examined by a staff of three attorneys working with show management, according to Show Manager Bill Glasgow, Sr.

Action & Reaction: The Effect of Smaller Sales Forces

Remember manufacturer sales people? There might be a connection between their reduction and a renewed strength of the OE brand. I was never a whiz at math, and I guess that’s why I ended up in journalism. Words and sentences just seem to make much more sense to me than numbers and algebraic variables. But at least like most people, I do understand Newton’s Third Law of physics: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

George Anderson, owner of Gessford Machine in Hastings, Neb., has been named the 2004 “Machine Shop of the Year” award by Engine Builder magazine and the Engine Rebuilders Association (AERA). AERA is a not-for-profit trade association, serving the engine rebuilder/remanufacturing industry, machine shops, equipment, parts and services suppliers since 1922.
