GKN Driveline Torque Technology is Awarded First Chery Contract

GKN Driveline Torque Technology has been awarded a contract to supply power transfer units (PTUs) to Chery, China’s largest independent car manufacturer. The contract is for an SUV due for launch in 2009. The new PTU is planned to be assembled at GKN Driveline Torque Technology’s new Kangkiao manufacturing facility. Components will be primarily sourced in China, except for the hypoid gear set, which will be produced in the company’s Nagoya facility in Japan.

GKN Driveline Continues To Expand in India

GKN Driveline has announced plans to expand its presence in India, by building a new factory for the manufacture of sideshafts, including a state-of-the-art test center, near Chennai. GKN Driveline will invest nearly $27.9 million in the new plant that will go into production at the beginning of next year. The plant will have a capacity of 600,000 vehicle sets.

SKF Aims to Strengthen Vehicle Aftermarket Business with Italian Acquisition

SKF has signed an agreement to acquire GLO s.r.I and its manufacturing operation in Italy. In 2007, GLO had sales of approximately $25 million. The company, which has about 50 employees, manufactures constant velocity joints and drive shafts. SKF is acquiring GLO from Metaldyne. SKF said the acquisition will broaden its existing product range and strengthen its presence primarily for the vehicle aftermarket in Europe.
