Pro Motor Engines Team Sets Another Record, Wins 2007 MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder Showdown
Dennis Borem and Darrell Hoffman of Pro Motor Engines walked away with the top prize at the 2007 MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder Showdown. The top prize included the Randy Dorton Memorial Trophy and a cash prize of $26,000. Kevin Webber and Scott Vester of Hendrick Motorsports received $9,000 in their runner-up effort. The 2007 MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder Showdown at NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, NC, was the culmination of four preliminary rounds, ending with the Championship on May 23 in front of nearly 1,500 screaming fans.
AMI Announces New Scholarship from Zurich; Application Deadline is Aug. 17
The Automotive Management Institute (AMI), in conjunction with Zurich (formerly Universal Underwriters Group), has announced a new scholarship program to help automotive service professionals obtain the management education crucial for success in today’s competitive industry environment. One scholarship will be awarded to an Automotive Service Association (ASA) Mechanical Division member who strives to be, or is presently working in a management capacity. Zurich, which provides a range of customized insurance products for the automotive aftermarket, introduced the scholarship program, called High Octane, specifically to address the educational needs of the automotive aftermarket.

ASA Announces New Board of Directors, Honors Member Achievements at Annual Convention
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) held its annual convention May 3-5 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN. The event provided a forum for several association leadership activities, including open meetings of the ASA board of directors and affiliate assembly; a State of the Association address by Ron Pyle, ASA’s president and chief staff executive; and the installation of the new board. Tenneco Opens China Research and Development Center
Tenneco has opened its first research and development center in China. Tenneco’s engineering center — a joint venture between Shanghai Tractor and Engine Company (STEC), a subsidiary of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC) — will focus on emission control product design and development for Tenneco’s growing OE and aftermarket businesses in China and the Asia-Pacific region. The center will deliver emission control testing capabilities, including acoustic tuning; noise, vibration and harshness/structural analysis; durability testing; engine vibration durability and diesel aftertreatment design.
