Bandag Officials Organize New Business

Bandag officials announced March 31 the organization of Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions, a new business that will expand the focus of the company’s operation in Muscatine, Iowa. For 50 years, Bandag has made retread truck tires and sold them around the world. In June 2007, the company, which has more than 330 employees in Muscatine, was acquired by Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. for $1.05 billion and began operating as Bridgestone Bandag LLC. The move announced Monday will combine sales and marketing for the Bridgestone truck tire group and Bandag.

Bridgestone Americas to Acquire Bandag for $1.05 Billion in Cash

Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc. and Bandag, Inc. have entered into a merger agreement through which Bridgestone Americas will acquire the outstanding shares of each class of stock of Bandag for $50.75 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $1.05 billion. Following completion of the transaction, Bandag will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc.

Goodyear, Tire Industry Association Join Forces on Certification

In a continued effort to strengthen commercial tire service revenues, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has teamed up with the Tire Industry Association (TIA) to offer certified tire technician training. The industry-first collaboration between the tire company and international industry trade association includes plans for two one-day seminars in 48 cities next year. Tire technicians from the Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly dealer networks, as well as Wingfoot Commercial Tire Centers, are eligible for the Goodyear/TIA joint certification.

The company said the new site “coincides with a new study that shows trucking companies are increasingly outsourcing tire and equipment maintenance work. The new Web site “includes more powerful tire evaluation software tools now available to fleets, new emergency roadside service and a wealth of information on tire inflation and load capacities.”
