Auto Parts Industry Presses Senate To Pass Association Health Plan Bill

Ten trade associations representing the entire scope of the auto parts industry, from suppliers to aftermarket, challenged the United States Senate to enact the “Small Business Health Fairness Act” (S. 406). The bill would allow small businesses to purchase affordable health care coverage through a trade association. In a show of solidarity, the 10 groups submitted a joint letter to the Senate urging immediate support for the bill, commonly referred to as “Association Health Plans” (AHPs).

Booths Now Available for the 2005 International Big R Show

Exhibit space for the International Big R Show — the annual Convention/Exposition of the Automotive Parts Remanufactuers Association (APRA) — is now available to interested suppliers. The 2005 International Big R Show will be held at the recently refurbished Riviera Hotel and Casino on Oct. 29-31. The exhibits will be on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 30 & 31. The AAPEX and SEMA Shows will also be held in Las Vegas, immediately following the “International Big R Show,” November 2-5.

Our latest Executive Interview features Aaron Lowe, vice president of government affairs for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association. On March 1 and 2, more than 200 aftermarket executives will gather in our nation’s capitol for the 2005 Aftermarket Legislative Summit. Global Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship Fund Received Record Donations in 2004

The Global Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship program, funded through the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS), received more than $20,000 in corporate and individual donations in 2004, helping the program award a record 145 scholarships of $1,000 to students planning aftermarket careers, and to sons and daughters of industry families.

Caterpillar’s Remanufacturing Push

Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar, which has 50 U.S. facilities and 65 abroad, can sell remanufactured products with warranties for less money than new equipment. The company’s top executive told Reuters the remanufacturing business is expected to grow 10 percent to 15 percent a year and has environmental benefits because fewer resources are used than in manufacturing.
