The annual meeting held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club is one of two meetings held each year bringing together the 54 shareholders of Alliance from Canada, Mexico and the United States, where they review past and current business performance and upcoming opportunities. The banquet included a tribute to retiring President and CEO, Richard Morgan.

Sloan Family Building for Aftermarket Studies Dedicated at Northwood University

The automotive aftermarket is big business, Northwood University President Keith Pretty commented during Thursday’s dedication of the Sloan Family Building for Aftermarket Studies. “In fact, it’s very big business,” he said, adding the industry’s annual revenues are approaching $300 billion. “This is bigger than the gross national product of many nations around the globe.” And Northwood is an integral part of the equation to help keep the economic engine of the automotive aftermarket humming along, Pretty believes.

Automotive Parts Associates to Give Away $10,000

Tomorrow, Professionals’ Choice Auto Parts and Automotive Parts Associates (APA) will launch its spring Scratch & Win promotion, which gives one lucky customer the chance to win $10,000. Participating APA warehouse distributors will give customers a scratch card each time they purchase a product from one of the sponsoring manufacturers. Instant winners will receive gift certificates to McDonald’s and all tickets can be dropped in a collection box for a chance to win the grand prize. The promotion runs from April 25 to June 16 and the winner will be selected on June 27.

Redefining Reman

For many reman products, the core market remains healthy. According to Frost & Sullivan, however, metal prices have gone up, creating increased competition for cores, making it more difficult for remanufacturers to obtain certain hard-to-find ones. The study says that scrap metal is so valuable that people are buying up starter and alternator cores to sell as scrap rather than for use by remanufacturers. Thus, among certain product categories, the core market is tightening up, creating additional pressures.
