Aftermarket Veteran James ‘Jim’ John Passes Away

An avid Air Force veteran, Jim then spent 40-plus years in the automotive aftermarket Industry. He began this career with the Champion Spark Plug Co. in Toledo and moved on to Genuine Parts Co. (NAPA), working in Los Angeles, California, then on to Triad Systems Corp. in Livermore, California. He spent the last 22 years of his career at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. He was the chair of the aftermarket management program at Northwood until 2010, when he was named director of automotive program development and recruiting for the university.

Industry Icon Bill Hatcher, Former GPC President And Chief Operating Officer, Passed Away June 17

Hatcher began his long career with GPC in 1940 when he was a student at Georgia Evening College (now Georgia State University) in Atlanta. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945, Hatcher returned to GPC in Atlanta. He was transferred to GPC’s facilities in Birmingham, Alabama, and New Orleans, but moved back to Atlanta in 1961 as president of the Atlanta operations.

François Michelin, the grandson of Michelin & Cie’s founder and the head of his family’s tire company for 47 years, has passed away. He was 88.

University Of The Aftermarket Foundation Establishes Memorial Fund To Honor Industry Leader Jack Creamer

The University of the Aftermarket Foundation board of trustees has established the John “Jack” F. Creamer Memorial Fund in honor of its vice chairman who passed away March 25 at the age of 84. The foundation plans to allocate donations made in his memory to help educate the next generation of auto care industry professionals.

Dr. Myron Ginsberg, Automotive Supercomputing Pioneer, Passes Away 

“A long-time researcher and independent consultant in the field of high-performance computing, Ginsberg was credited with the first in-house installation of a supercomputer in the auto industry during his years as a staff research scientist at General Motors Research,” HPCWire wrote in Ginsberg’s obituary.

Scarlato, 37, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, following a 17-month battle with ovarian cancer.
