Detroit Diesel to Build New Heavy Duty Engine at Michigan Plant
Detroit Diesel Corp. said it will build a new, heavy duty diesel engine line at the company’s Redford, Mich., manufacturing facility. DDC also said it plans to initiate North American assembly of the MBE 900 medium-duty diesel engine at Redford.

William “Bill” Diggory, vice president and general manager of Chicago Rawhide, Elgin, Ill., has been elected 2005 chairman of the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA). Diggory served as HDMA vice chairman in 2004.
Workers Sue Oxford on Benefits
Former employees of a closed Indiana auto parts plant are suing a Michigan company and its top executives, accusing them of lying to the government and holding up benefits provided under the North American Free Trade Agreement. More than 300 former employees of Oxford Automotive Inc. are named as plaintiffs in a complaint alleging the Troy, Mich.-based company and nine former and current company officials engaged in fraud and criminal conversion. The case was filed Friday in Marshall Circuit Court.

Siemens VDO Automotive to Acquire Chrysler Group’s Huntsville Electronics Operations
Siemens VDO Automotive Electronics Corp. has signed an agreement to acquire Chrysler Group’s electronics operation located in Huntsville, Ala. The facility produces automotive electronics products for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge products and generates approximately $1 billion in sales. Details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Situated on a 180-acre site, Huntsville Electronics is composed of two plants operating two shifts daily. The first plant opened in 1977 and is 232,000 square feet. The second plant opened in 1988 and encompasses 849,000 square feet. Currently, operations in Huntsville employ more than 2,000 people who are represented by the UAW.
