AAPEX Attendees: Las Vegas Monorail System Officially Opens

Seasoned aftermarket veterans know: Amidst the glitz and gloss, the annual AAPEX show in Las Vegas can be summed up in two images — tired aching feet and long taxi lines. However, we have great news to report for those of you attending this year’s show. Yesterday, the new Las Vegas Monorail officially opened. The new system, built by Bombardier Transportation and Granite Construction Co., extends for four miles along the Las Vegas Strip. The driverless system, which includes 36 monorail vehicles on a dual-lane guideway, has seven stations, including one at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

U.S. Industry Associations Sponsor 2005 Australian Aftermarket Trade Show

Several major U.S. industry associations have offered their support for the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) in promoting its 2005 AAAA Trade Show. The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) has announced it will promote the show, as the event will provide AAIA members the opportunity to reach key buyers in the emerging Asian-Pacific markets. In addition, the Automotive Parts Rebuilders Association (APRA) has signed on as a co-sponsor of the event. The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association and a number of other U.S. aftermarket associations will also sponsor the event.

Parts Plus to Award Academic Scholarships to Tomorrow’s Technicians

As part of its Tomorrow’s Technician Essay Contest for registered students in NATEF-accredited schools, Parts Plus will be awarding a trip to the 9th Parts Plus National Convention, to be held February 24-27, 2005, in New Orleans, as well as partial academic scholarships, according to Mike Lambert, president of Parts Plus.

PRI Show Moving to Orlando In 2005

Show organizers for the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show have announced to their current exhibitors that the 2005 PRI Show will be moving to the new 1 million-square-foot Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. According to a letter currently being distributed to exhibiting manufacturers, PRI is moving the show to Orlando in response to the rapid growth of the event and the needs of exhibiting companies.

Meineke Raises $43,000 for Children’s Miracle Network

Charlotte, NC-based Meineke Car Care Centers recently donated more than $43,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) during the charity’s Annual Broadcast on June 5th and 6th. Now in its 7th year as a CMN sponsor, the Meineke chain has contributed more than $500,000 to Children’s Miracle Network, which supports children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.
