NACE Live Action Theater Tackles Rekeying Issue

The International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE) has announced that this year’s Live Action Theater will conduct a “Profit Clinic” to tackle the issue of rekeying. The Live Action Theater (formerly known as the Action Demos), which will be located inside the Exposition, will feature both Profit and Process Clinics, designed to enable attendees to take away real practical knowledge.

American Tire Distributors Acquires Wholesale Tire Distributors

American Tire Distributors, Inc. announced that they have acquired 100 percent of the stock of Wholesale Tire Distributors, Inc., Wholesale Tire Distributors of Wyoming, Inc. and Wholesale Tire Distributors of Idaho, Inc. This acquisition expands American Tire Distributors’ service across Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, as well as parts of Nevada and Colorado.

Meridian Seeks Chapter 11 Aid

In what is becoming a fairly regular and disconcerting occurrence in today’s auto industry, Meridian Automotive Systems Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday, citing the high cost of steel and increased pricing pressure from its automaker customers.

Investcorp to Acquire American Tire Distributors

Investcorp, a global investment group, reached a definitive agreement today to acquire American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) from its majority shareholder, Charlesbank Capital Partners. Terms of the deal, which is expected to close in late March, were not announced. ATD is the largest independent tire distributor in the U.S., with 70 distribution centers in 35 states, servicing some 40,000 tire dealer locations across the country. Founded in 1935 as Heafner Tire Co., the company changed its name to ATD in 2002.

NACE Selects Chairman 2005 Event

Geralynn Kottschade, AAM, co-owner of Jerry’s Body Shop, Mankato, Minn., has been named chairman of the 2005 International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE). Kottschade is the first woman to chair NACE and brings 22 years of collision repair experience to the position.

Intermet Warning Triggers Sell-Off, Bankruptcy is a Threat, Says Analyst

Add one more name to the list of struggling Detroit-area auto suppliers. Troy, Mich.-based Intermet Corp., a maker of metal brake and suspension parts, has warned Wall Street that it will lose tens of millions of dollars this quarter and needs a new credit agreement from its banks to avoid bankruptcy. Intermet blamed higher-than-expected steel costs and unspecified “operational problems” at some North American plants for its financial predicament.

Yokohama Tire Signs Distribution Agreement with American Car Care Centers

Yokohama Tire Corp. and American Car Care Centers (ACCC) have signed a distribution agreement through which Yokohama will provide ACCC’s members access to its full line of products. Yokohama will supply ACCC with its core products including the AVS, AVID and Geolandar lines of tires.
