Goodyear Files Antitrust Lawsuit for Price Fixing

Goodyear Tire & Rubber has filed an antitrust lawsuit against suppliers of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) alleging price fixing and anti-competitive conduct in violation of the federal Sherman Act antitrust laws. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber that is used in rubber-containing products to improve their strength, and EPDM has excellent resistance to heat, oxidation, ozone and weather aging due to its stable, saturated polymer structure. Goodyear uses EPDM in tires, hoses and belts, for example.

Supplier Pact is Official: New Hires to Make Less at Delphi and Visteon

The country’s two largest auto-parts makers, Delphi Corp. and Visteon Corp., formally announced Thursday their 7-year UAW contract that will substantially reduce pay for their future UAW workers, and requires them to pay for more of their health care and much of their retirement.

ASA Announces New Board of Directors

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) installed its new board of directors during the association’s annual business meeting held on April 16 and 17 in San Antonio. Geralynn Kottschade, AAM, of Jerry’s Body Shop Inc. in Mankato, Minn., was named chairman of ASA’s board of directors for 2004-05. Kottschade assumed the chairman’s post at the conclusion of the annual meeting.

Richard Keister Leaves Delco Remy to Join Keystone Automotive

Richard Keister, president of Delco Remy International’s (DRI) Aftermarket Group, has announced he will resign on May 31 to join Keystone Automotive Industries, a supplier to the collision repair industry, as CEO. Keister will replace Charles Hogarty, who plans to retire on August 31. Hogarty will remain with the company as a consultant for a two-year period.

Dana Corp. has elected former Goodyear chairman Samir Gibara and David Berges, chairman, CEO and president of Hexcel Corp. to its board of directors. Dana Chairman Glen Hiner made the announcement.

Attorney Shirley Peterson Elected to Goodyear Board

Attorney Shirley Peterson has been elected to Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s board of directors. The recipient of a number of national awards, Peterson began a 20-year career as an attorney with the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson in Washington, D.C., in 1969, becoming a partner in 1978. In 1989, she accepted an appointment by President George H.W. Bush as assistant attorney general, Tax Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Peterson remained there until 1992, when President Bush appointed her commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.

According to a federal labor panel, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is violating federal law by refusing to bargain with a union elected to represent workers at its Cedar Rapids, Iowa, distribution center.
