Federal-Mogul Appoints Second Former Fiat Exec to Management Team

Jean Brunol has been appointed senior vice president, business and operations strategy and a member of the strategy board for Federal-Mogul Corp. His appointments are effective May 2. In this new role, Brunol will be responsible for corporate development of business and global growth strategies. Most recently Brunol was senior vice president, product and business strategy, international operations at Iveco – the commercial vehicle company of the Fiat Group. He is the second executive from Fiat Group to join Federal-Mogul in recent weeks. Last week, the company announced the appointment of Mario Leone, Fiat Group’s former chief information officer, to the position of senior vice president and chief information officer for Federal-Mogul.

Hedge fund Steel Partners II LP on Thursday, Nov. 11, launched a $708 million hostile bid for GenCorp Inc., attacking the aerospace conglomerate for its subpar financial performance and questioning the company’s deal making record. “Management and the board appear to have engaged in what can be best described as a game of gin rummy by buying and selling businesses with no clear corporate strategy and with very poor results, including the recent sale of the GDX Automotive business at a loss of over $300 million,” said Warren Lichtenstein, managing partner at Steel, in a letter to GenCorp’s board.

Universal Technical Institute to Build New Automotive Training Campus in Boston Area

Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a provider of technical education training, has entered into an agreement to purchase a property in the Boston suburb of Norwood, Mass., where it plans to open a new undergraduate automotive technician training campus. The Norwood campus is expected to open in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005.
