ESPN and ABC Sports have signed on to be the exclusive carriers of Indy Racing League (IRL) events, providing live television coverage of all 16 IRL IndyCar Series events for the 2004 season.
Auto Suppliers Under Pressure to Shift Production Abroad
A new study soon to be released by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is showing that the pressure to move automotive manufacturing jobs abroad will continue, despite federal and local government efforts to maintain or increase industry employment levels in the U.S. The SAE will release the report at the 2004 SAE World Congress in Detroit next month. The study, which is still under development, will outline “best practices” for global automotive suppliers. The Odyssey study seeks to help suppliers understand how their global manufacturing operations will need to change and how best to make those changes to survive and thrive.

Ward’s Reports Estimated Production

The aftermarket division of Modine Manufacturing has added more than 100 complete replacement radiators to its 2004 product line. The expanded radiator line, currently available, includes thousands of applications from domestic and import cars and light trucks. Modine’s aftermarket supplies replacement radiators both nationally and internationally, including distribution through major national accounts like NAPA, Pronto, Parts Plus, APA, independent automotive parts distributors, and more than 25,000 local repair outlets.

Next month, Kayaba Industry Co., Ltd. (KYB) will acquire a 75 percent shareholding in AP Amortiguadores SA (APA) currently held by ArvinMeritor. OE Suppliers May Drop By 50 Percent: Group Predicts Half Will Go Under by 2010
The auto industry is on track to lose half of its parts suppliers by 2010 because of escalating pressure to reduce component prices. That prediction from the Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA), a trade group that represents suppliers, comes in response to a new survey that found automakers are demanding more and steeper price cuts from parts makers.
