Communications Chief Prokop Leaving Conti

On Nov. 17 Continental announced that Heimo Prokop will leave his position with the company at the end of 2009. Continental AG’s global communications chief was described by the company as “a formative influence on communication in decisive phases of the corporation’s development.” Until a successor is appointed, the current press spokesman and vice president of media relations Hannes Boekhoff will head corporate communications on a temporary basis.

SmarTire Reaches Settlement with Siemens on Patent Infringement Lawsuit

SmarTire Systems has settled its patent infringement lawsuit against Siemens VDO Automotive Corp., now known as Continental Automotive Systems US, Inc. SmarTire’s remaining patent infringement claim against Schrader-Bridgeport International, Inc. and Schrader Electronics Ltd. in the same case will continue with a jury trial now set to begin on May 7, subject to the court’s ruling on pre-trial motions.

A private-equity firm in Florida made a competing offer for Delphi Corp.’s steering business, setting the stage for a bidding war over the division as Chairman Steve Miller tries to wrap up Delphi’s two-year bankruptcy. Sun Capital Partners Inc., based in Boca Raton, FL, said in court papers Monday it would pay nearly $10 million more in cash than Los Angeles-based Platinum Equity has proposed for Delphi’s steering business.
