Four new product manufacturers have made it into the top 10 on the 2004 Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) Top 100 Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers list, which will be mailed with the May issue of Counterman magazine. Visteon Plans to Cut 600 Jobs in Indiana

Auto parts supplier Visteon Corp. said it would relocate part of its Bedford plant operations to cut costs in a move that could affect about 600 of the plant’s 1,150 hourly and salaried workers. The Dearborn, Mich.-based company gave no timetable for the move from Bedford, Ind., about 20 miles south of Bloomington, Ind., or a possible site for relocating workers. The plant makes a variety of fuel system parts and other components, mostly for Ford cars and trucks.

Automotive Suppliers Support Frink as Manufacturing Secretary

MEMA and its members have voiced their support for the nomination of Al Frink as the first Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Manufacturing and Services. Frink, 61, co-founded the California-based carpet maker Fabrica International in 1974.

A handful of large private equity firms are considering bids for two key automotive parts businesses on the auction block, sources close to the situation said. Both Dana Corp. and Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. have announced they may divest their auto parts businesses. Each unit may separately fetch $1 billion or more, analysts estimate.

NARSA Joins AAPEX, New Heat and Transfer & Mobile A/C Section to Be Established

The National Automotive Radiator Service Association (NARSA) has forged an agreement with the sponsoring associations of Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) for the establishment of a new Heat Transfer & Mobile A/C Section at the 2004 AAPEX show.
