Berkshire Hathaway to Acquire Majority of Perfection Clutch’s Parent Company

Berkshire-Hathaway, a conglomerate holding company headquartered in Omaha, NE, will purchase 60 percent of Marmon Holdings, parent company of Perfection Clutch, a supplier of new clutch sets, new flywheels and ZOOM performance products to the U.S. aftermarket. Perfection Clutch is one of the 125 companies held by Marmon Holdings, Inc. The closing is anticipated to occur in the first quarter of 2008. The remaining 40 percent will be acquired through staged acquisitions over a five to six year period for consideration to be based on the future earnings of Marmon.

OBITUARY: Collision Industry Veteran March Taylor Passes Away

BodyShop Business contributor and collision repair shop owner March Taylor died tragically over the weekend after suffering a heart attack while diving in Hawaii. He was 59. Taylor owned Auto Body Hawaii in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Not your typical shop owner, he worked alongside his employees as a technician. This, he said, gave him “the opportunity to see things how they really are. I’m not disconnected from production or management.”

Universal Manufacturing Sells Distribution Division

Universal Manufacturing of Algona, Iowa, has sold its distribution subsidiary, Universal Distribution, LLC to AER Sales, L.P. of Carrollton, TX. Universal distributes remanufactured Ford and Motorcraft branded engine and transmission assemblies and other powertrain related components, mainly to Ford dealerships. It has warehouses in Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha, NE, and Peoria, IL, and employs 10 people. According to Don Heupel, president of Universal Manufacturing, the sale will have no material effect on the operations or personnel of Universal Manufacturing, which remanufactures auto parts such as fuel pump assemblies, brake calipers, transfer cases, transfer case engagement motors at its facility in Algona.

Texas Based Firm to Purchase Universal Distribution LLC

Universal Distribution, LLC has entered into a definitive agreement with AER Sales, L.P. to sell its automotive parts distribution business. Universal Distribution operates warehouse distribution centers in Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha, NE, and Peoria, IL. Universal Distribution distributes remanufactured Ford and Motorcraft branded engine and transmission assemblies and other Powertrain related components, mainly to Ford dealerships. AER Sales operates a similar business in several sections of the country. The company is owned by Algona, Iowa-based Universal Mfg. Co.

Bosch to Acquire Beissbarth and Sicam

The Bosch Group has unveiled plans to further consolidate its foothold in the workshop equipment market through the acquisition of Munich-based Beissbarth GmbH, and Italy ’s Sicam s.r.l., companies that both belong to parent company Beissbarth Automotive Group GmbH. An agreement between Bosch and Beissbarth Automotive was signed on Feb. 14.
