Northwood’s 2011 International Auto Show to Focus on New Technology in Consumer Vehicles

The theme for this year's largest outdoor new car Auto Show is "The Road to Innovation."

MIDLAND, Mich. – Each year, the annual Northwood University International Auto Show (NUIAS) features more than 500 new domestic and imported cars, trucks, recreational vehicles, vans, experimental and specialty vehicles, plus various exciting automotive aftermarket products. The theme for this year’s largest outdoor new car Auto Show is “The Road to Innovation.”

NUIAS General Chair Joshua Struck said, “This year’s theme, ‘The Road to Innovation,’ focuses on the technology being incorporated into today’s vehicles by automotive manufacturers in order to meet the ever-changing demands of the consumer. These vehicles are not only beneficial to the environment but also improve the overall customer experience. This allows for the driver and passengers to once again partake in the adventure of driving.”

Receiving 50,000 guests annually, the NUIAS is billed as an event for the entire family. The three-day event show allows attendees to view the vehicles of the future as well as the vehicles of yesterday. The event, which includes a Classic Car Show on Sunday, Oct. 2, is planned and executed solely by Northwood students.

The 2011 NUIAS will be featuring a variety of “must-see” vehicles. The domestic division will offer the opportunity to get an up close and personal look at the Chevrolet Volt. Team Street and Racing Technology (SRT) will display an array of performance vehicles offered by the Chrysler Group LLC as well as two SRT concept vehicles. The European division gives attendees a chance to view vehicles they may never see on the road, such as the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Reventon (1 of 20 worldwide), Ferrari Enzo and Ferrari California. The show also will host a few must-see vehicles for younger visitors — the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and a sleigh driven by Santa Claus (during his off-season).

Many exhibits will line the Mall Walk, where a variety of food, information and entertainment also will be available. The Auto Show is free of charge, offers free parking and is open to the public.

The Auto Show will be held Sept. 30, Oct.1 and Oct. 2 on the Michigan Campus of Northwood University in Midland, Mich. Show hours are Friday, Sept. 30, from 12 p.m. (noon)-6 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
