FT. MILL, S.C. — Continental Tire North America is no more.
The company, incorporated in Ohio, has changed its name to Continental Tire the Americas LLC (CTA). The change was made on Jan. 31, according to reports, but no formal announcement was made.
Headquartered in Ft. Mill, S.C., the company was once named Continental-General Tire when it was based in Akron, Ohio, following Continental AG’s purchase of the former General Tire Co. Under Ohio law, the company can change its status from “incorporated” to “limited liability corporation” through a formal name change. The change only affects the company’s tax status, reports said, as the entity can pass all income and losses through to its owners.
“Continental Tire of the Americas remains the same company with the name change being more of a legal formality,” Keith Mackey, director of purchasing for CTA, told the Mt. Vernon, Ill., media. “From an operational standpoint, it will be business as usual.”
Mackey said CTA will retain the rights, interests, duties and obligations of CTNA under existing contracts. (Tire Review)
