Mission Technology: 2006 MIS Council Fall Conference to Highlight Security, Data Organization and Collaboration

Security, data organization and collaboration for automotive aftermarket and heavy-duty suppliers will be the focus of the 2006 Fall Conference presented by the MEMA Information Services Council (MIS Council). The conference is slated for Sunday, Oct. 15, through Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Marco Island, FL.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Security, data organization and collaboration for automotive aftermarket and heavy-duty suppliers will be the focus of the 2006 Fall Conference presented by the MEMA Information Services Council (MIS Council). The conference is slated for Sunday, Oct. 15, through Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Marco Island, FL.

The MIS Council, a peer group of the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association, serves as a medium for industry interaction, education and idea exchange regarding matters of common interest to information technology (IT) and e-commerce professionals in the automotive aftermarket industry.

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Doris Gardner is the keynote speaker for the MIS Council Fall Conference on Monday, Oct. 16. A popular speaker from past conferences, she is an agency expert on the threats and attacks made on networks and data. Gardner will discuss several actual attacks on corporate firewalls and systems and relay the lessons learned to help attendees better protect against and prepare for inevitable attacks on their networks.

“This year’s conference will bring more value than ever to automotive aftermarket and heavy-duty parts manufacturers,” said Chris Gardner, MIS Council director and MEMA vice president of strategic services and technology. “Our theme this year, ‘Mission Technology,’ reflects our program of experts who will address vital issues facing IT professionals in the aftermarket and heavy-duty industries.”

The conference will feature an interactive three-hour session on Tuesday, Oct. 16, engaging conference attendees in identifying best practices to address the increasing challenge of managing and organizing internal data. Results from the work session will be used as a basis for a published white paper for manufacturers.

“This interactive session is a real opportunity for manufacturers to help develop a resource that will ultimately support their own efforts to cleanse and organize their data,” Gardner noted.

Four leading aftermarket and heavy-duty customers will participate in a half-day session on e-commerce on Oct. 16. Representatives of the International Group (CARQUEST), Midwest Wheel, NAPA and O’Reilly Auto Parts will present their approaches to managing IT projects, especially those that support e-commerce processes with suppliers. Future directives and initiatives will be discussed to enable manufacturers to plan in advance of implementation deadlines.

The MIS Council Fall Conference is sponsored by Illumaware, Management Information Systems Group Inc. (MISG) and Technologue Inc.
