China’s SinoCast and Beijing Modern Business Daily reported yesterday that Groupe Michelin has filed an infringement suit against Aeolus Tyre Co. Ltd. and its agent Best Choice International trade Co. Ltd. in Beijing Chaoyang Court.
According to the report, Michelin is seeking compensation of 1 million Chinese won (approximately $124,000).
The suit claims Aeolus copied three Michelin tires “with special decorative pattern.”
Groupe Michelin’s Michelin Shenyang Tire Co. Ltd., said the report, launched the three tire lines in 1999 and “the special decorative pattern had become the main symbol for Chinese consumers to identify Michelin tires.”
The Beijing Modern Business Daily report said that the lawyer of Aeolus Tyre denies infringement and says that the company has patent right of exterior design of the three tires.
Michelin has filed similar design and patent infringement suits in Europe and North America.
