At CES 2024, MAHLE will showcase its latest advancements in electric drives and intelligent charging technologies. Among the notable innovations on display is a new technology kit for electric motors, which integrates the features of MAHLE’s SCT (Superior Continuous Torque) and MCT (Magnet-free Contactless Transmitter) electric motors. This motor boasts high peak power, wear-free power transmission, the absence of rare earths and maximum efficiency, MAHLE said.
Peter Lynch, vice president of sales and application engineering and president of MAHLE Industries, Inc., emphasized the company’s commitment to e-mobility. “Electrification is the focus of the future for MAHLE as we continue to position ourselves as a systems-expertise champion in e-mobility,” Lynch said.
MAHLE has also made a breakthrough in battery cooling with its bionic battery-cooling plate, inspired by natural models. Additionally, the company’s innovative wireless charging positioning system, recently selected as the global standard by SAE International, will be featured. This system simplifies the alignment of electric vehicles above a charging coil, marking a significant step towards widespread adoption of wireless charging.
MAHLE’s technology kit combines SCT and MCT motor technologies, allowing the compay to offer tailored electrification solutions for various vehicle classes and applications. The MCT motor is known for its environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and high efficiency, particularly in real-road traffic scenarios, the company said. Its contactless internal electric current transmission ensures high durability and maintenance-free operation.
The SCT motor, known for its endurance, can operate at high power indefinitely thanks to a new cooling concept. The integrated oil cooling system not only enhances robustness but also utilizes the motor’s waste heat for the vehicle’s overall system. The motor’s compact design leads to material and weight savings, benefiting commercial vehicles’ payload capacity.
Further emphasizing the importance of thermal management in battery electric vehicles, MAHLE’s new battery-cooling plate ensures fast charging, extended cruising range, and longer service life for lithium-ion batteries. The company reports a 10 percent increase in cooling performance and a 20 percent reduction in pressure loss, resulting in more efficient and faster-charging batteries.
MAHLE will display its innovations at booths on Level 2/Hall D (German Pavilion, Booth 55439-24) and Level 4/Zeno (Meeting Room 4706) during CES 2024.
