AURORA, Ontario — Global automotive supplier Magna International will officially open a new technical training center in Baltimore today.
The Magna Baltimore Technical Training Center (MBTTC), located in Baltimore’s Park Heights district, is the newest addition to Magna’s global training operations and the company’s first-ever training center in the United States.
MBTTC will provide hands-on training in machining and tool and die manufacturing as well as instruction to local residents who wish to complete their high school educations. Magna is working together with The Community College of Baltimore County to provide course instruction in various manufacturing trades. Courses include robotics, welding and blueprint reading. The company has also refurbished the adjacent recreation complex and community activity center.
Magna founder and Chairman Frank Stronach, said, “There is an enormous need in the United States today for skilled trades people in the manufacturing sector, and it is important that America maintains a strong manufacturing base in order to produce made-in-America products that lessen the country’s reliance on imports. We believe the Training Center can help in this regard by graduating workers with the technical skills required by American manufacturers.”
