ITC to Study U.S. Remanufacturing Industry; Study Project Leader to Speak at 2011 Remanufacturing Legislative Summit

The 2011 Remanufacturing Legislative Summit takes place Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 20-21 in Washington, D.C., and is open to MERA members and non-members interested in the remanufactured motor vehicle parts industry.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) announced the initiation of an investigative report, “Remanufactured Goods: An Overview of the U.S. and Global Industries, Markets, and Trade,” on July 26. Alan Treat, project leader for the study, will discuss the study on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the 2011 Remanufacturing Legislative Summit, hosted by the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA) and the Remanufacturing Industries Council (RIC).

The 2011 Remanufacturing Legislative Summit takes place Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 20-21 in Washington, D.C., and is open to MERA members and non-members interested in the remanufactured motor vehicle parts industry. Summit attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the report with Treat and provide valuable industry feedback.

The ITC plans to conduct an investigation focusing on 2009-2011 data and prepare a report that provides an overview of the U.S. remanufactured goods industries and markets, estimates U.S. and global trade in remanufactured goods to the extent possible and examines factors affecting trends in remanufactured goods trade. The report is in response to a request from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) earlier this year.

The Commission’s report will focus on remanufacturing-intensive sectors in the U.S. economy that account for the majority of remanufacturing activity in the U.S. The full text of the ITC’s July 26 announcement in the Federal Register can be viewed here.
