BETHESDA, MD — Earlier this week it was announced a joint operating committee of heavy duty manufacturing and distribution associations has created the first ever Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week, which is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas in February. A joint operating committee including the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDDA), Heavy Duty Distribution Association, National Wheel & Rim Association, Service Specialists Association and Truck Pride, are coordinating the event. Other groups actively involved in the event are Heavy Duty America, FleetPride and VIPAR.
HDDA, one of the members working to organize the new event, followed this week’s announcement with the news it will not participate in the 2005 Council of Fleet Specialists Executive Conference as a result of the new event. HDDA is part of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association.
The HDDA Board of Governors said it determined its members and the heavy duty industry at large would be better served by focusing its resources on the new Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week.
When asked for its thoughts about this news, the Council of Fleet Specialists said it distributed a letter to its membership addressing this topic. Requests for a copy of the letter were not responded to as of press time.
