From Tire Review
News reports in both Middle Tennessee and South Korea say that Hankook Tire Co. will build its first U.S. tire plant in Clarksville, Tenn., just north of Nashville.
The $800 million project will be officially announced today at an invitation-only event at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center in Clarksville. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam will be in attendance, as will Hankook Tire CEO Seung-hwa Suh.
"With this newest manufacturing facility in place, we will be able to supply the highest quality tire products that meet fast growing demands from consumers and automakers in the United States," according to a text of Suh’s prepared remarks for the ceremony.
With the announcement today, Tennessee will have bested both Georgia and South Carolina in competing for the Hankook facility. While no timetable was available at press time, it is expected that the plant will have an annual production capacity of 10-11 million passenger and light truck/SUV tires.
