GAAS 2007: AAIA and Lang Marketing Resources Unveil New, Expanded Aftermarket Factbook

There have been many different estimates about the size and scope of the total automotive aftermarket. Most estimates are around the same amount, but they haven’t necessarily been solid and proven numbers. Now, for the first time, there is an estimate of the full size of the automotive aftermarket provided by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and Lang Marketing Resources. Together, they have estimated the entire size of the automotive aftermarket to be $294 billion.

From this combined research, AAIA has produced the 2007-2008 Aftermarket Factbook Expanded Version. The report is 310 pages and contains information on both the traditional AAIA Aftermarket Factbook and the Lang Aftermarket Annual 2007-2008.

“To achieve this data harmonization, it was important to recognize that public companies in the automotive industry are using information from both AAIA and Lang,” said Kathleen Schmatz, AAIA president and CEO. “Every effort was made to preserve the integrity of the basic outline of this information so the financial community and public companies would not be confused.”

AAIA will continue to publish its traditional Aftermarket Factbook which, this year, includes an additional 32 pages and sample data from the Lang Aftermarket Annual.

In addition to this new research, AAIA is offering an enhanced version of the eFactbook that contains an interactive presentation of the printed original Factbook with PowerPoint slides for all the data. This will provide users with a readily available customized presentation for each section of the report. The eFactbook also includes a printable PDF of the entire traditional Factbook as well as Excel files of all charts and table.
