First-Ever BPC Brand Protection Awards Presented

From MEMA Industry News

One individual and two government agencies have received Brand Protection awards from the Brand Protection Council (BPC), recognizing their anti-counterfeiting and intellection property rights protection efforts.

The BPC established these annual awards this year to honor government officials or agencies, foreign or domestic, whose work and dedication in the fight against counterfeiting merit special recognition.

Mohammad S. Al-Aiyash, director general of internal trade, chairman of IPR committee at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Saudi Arabia, received the award for his leadership, dedication and commitment of time and resources to the investigation of counterfeiting and enforcement of anti-counterfeiting regulations.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Port of Savannah, was honored for recognizing the need to include reviews of automotive related loads imported to, and traveling through, the U.S. not only for the protection of rights holders, but most importantly the protection of consumer safety.

The Anti-Fraud Division for Consumer Protection Department, Sharjah Municipality, United Arab Emirates, was recognized for its efforts addressing the trade of counterfeit products and in protecting intellectual property rights in Sharjah and the UAE in general – all to meet the main goals of protecting the consumer and the brand owners.

The award plaques have been shipped to the recipients, who will be recognized in a brief announcement at the MEMA Legislative Summit breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, in Washington, D.C.
