Equipment and Tool Institute Opens Access to I/M Overview

The Equipment and Tool Institute (ETI) has announced it will give unrestricted access to its annual “Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Overview” available on the ETI Web site. This will be the first time the document is made available to any interested party free of charge, regardless of ETI membership. The “I/M Overview” is a comprehensive listing of all automotive inspection and maintenance programs in the U.S. and Canada. It details everything from the program’s EPA designation and start date to test types, frequency, fees and volume. ETI has also added the “OBDII Generic Communication Protocols by Manufacturer” listing and the “ODB CAN Equipped Vehicles” list at the end of the report.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — The Equipment and Tool Institute (ETI) has announced it will give unrestricted access to its annual “Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Overview” available on the ETI Web site. This will be the first time the document is made available to any interested party free of charge, regardless of ETI membership.

“We are significantly expanding this effort and have restructured the report to give as much detail in as concise a format as possible” stated Charlie Gorman, executive manager of ETI.

“Our intent is to provide a service not only to our members, but also to state and federal regulators and the industry as a whole” said Brian Irish, marketing manager of ETI. “I have personally searched every state’s Web site and government document that I could find on the subject. There isn’t a more complete, up-to-date, and detailed report available. I know because I have looked,” he noted.

ETI noted that it will be conducting semi-annual updates. There will also be a change log that will track changes as they are added. “The I/M Overview” will be available free of charge on ETI’s Web site until Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005. At that time, ETI members will still have free access. However, non-members may be charged an annual access fee to help defray the costs of the updates.

“We hope people will find this document to be of great value. With all the recent and coming changes in air quality regulations, someone needs to keep track of where the programs are and what changes are happening,” said Gorman. “ETI is stepping in to fill that need.”
