From AAIA Capital Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced they will hold three public hearings next month on the proposed 54.5 miles-per-gallon (mpg) fuel economy standard. The first hearing will be held in Detroit on Jan. 17 at the Courtyard Detroit Downtown; the second is scheduled for Jan. 19 in Philadelphia at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia Downtown; and the third will take place on Jan. 24 in San Francisco at the Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf. All three hearings will commence at 10 a.m. local time.
EPA and NHTSA recently issued a joint proposal expanding fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions standards for model year 2017 through 2025 passenger cars and light-duty trucks. The rule establishes a goal of 163 grams of carbon dioxide emitted per mile by 2025, which, if achieved solely through fuel economy technology, would equate to 54.5 mpg for passenger cars. Light duty trucks will be required to reach a significantly lesser standard of 40.3 mpg by 2025.
If you cannot attend one of the hearings, the agencies have allowed the public to listen to each hearing through a conference call-in line: 866-299-3188. The conference code is 734 214 4423#.
