MISSION VIEJO, CA — DST Inc. recently hosted an IBM-sponsored Executive Summit in Schaumburg, IL for selected parts professionals wanting to “rev up” the performance of their warehouse operations.
The featured speaker for the event was D. Bruce Merrifield, Jr., an advisor for wholesale distribution companies and channels. In addition, an interactive workshop-like environment was conducted by Floyd Beadle, DST’s VP of Business Solutions; a panel of warehouse executives, including Bruce Sommerville, Operations and General Manager of Denver CO-based Drive Train Industries, Inc.; and Bob Lueken, former Operations Manager for Aurora Truck Parts & Accessories in Lebanon IN. The panel shared real-world experiences and insight regarding their deployment of next-generation warehouse management systems.
Ryan Wrege of TBA and Oil Warehouse Inc. in Indianapolis, a four-location warehouse distributor of ACDelco and other lines, was an attendee at the summit and said, “The program was excellent, thought provoking and very valuable. It opened our eyes and provided us with guidelines for adapting sophisticated business management perspectives to real-world challenges. For instance, the significance of tracking customer metrics to qualify them by number of transactions and cost per transaction and determine where our energies should be focused was a theme of the presentation which we implemented immediately upon our return to our business.”
Future summits are planned for other cities and will include such timely, automotive and heavy-duty aftermarket specific themes as re-energizing a parts warehouse with effective processes, leveraging technology to create a paperless warehouse, jumpstarting warehouse productivity, enhancing visibility to the parts warehouse, improving inventory accuracy to meet customer commitments and much more.
