De La Rue to Demonstrate the Counterfeit Problem at AAPEX

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. — Security printer De La Rue will be launching a range of new security labels expressly designed for the automotive market at the upcoming AAPEX trade show in Las Vegas. De La Rue’s exhibit will show installers and distributors of automotive replacement parts just how difficult it is to distinguish between counterfeit and genuine parts.

This exhibit will take the form of a competition, inviting visitors and attendees to test their industry skill.

“As consumers, whether end-users or installers, we tend to take it on trust that we are buying genuine parts, with all the safety and warranty implications that go with that,” De La Rue’s American Vice President, Cliff Nelson. “But it’s easy to be fooled; counterfeiting in the auto parts market is a growing problem, and counterfeits are not always junk. In fact, many will trick even the most discerning customer.”

Nelson added, “So, we are inviting people to have a go a telling the difference between some counterfeit and genuine parts, and are offering a $500 prize to the winner. Apart from anything else, it will show people the aspects they need to concentrate on when buying parts – packaging and print quality, not just the look and construction of the item.”

Correct entries will be placed in a drawing, which will be made on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at De La Rue’s booth (Booth # 773).
