AUBURN HILLS, Mich. Toyota Motor Corp. recognized international automotive supplier Continental for its outstanding contributions in 2013. The Regional Contribution Award was presented on Feb. 28, in Nagoya, Japan during the Toyota Global Suppliers Convention.
Continental was the only supplier in North America to earn the award, which represents one of the automaker’s highest supplier honors. Continental earned the award for its exceptional development of the Blind Spot Detection system and advanced product execution. The awards program recognizes global companies for superior quality, delivery, technology, innovation and cost improvement performance.
Toyota’s President Akio Toyoda presented the award to Samir Salman, CEO for Continental North America.
"As one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers, we are proud to receive this prestigious award and honored to be a part of Toyota’s team," said Salman. "Continental enjoys a long-standing partnership with Toyota, sharing the same values of quality and commitment to the end-customer."
In 2013, Continental also received Toyota’s Technology & Development Award 2012 for its Rear Cross Traffic Alert system. This award recognized Continental for the advancement of the system for monitoring blind spots, which helps to avoid accidents when reversing out of a parking space. These types of incidences can often lead to serious accidents involving personal injuries. Today, Continental supplies more than 10 Toyota models with this technology.
"Continental is dedicated to maintaining innovative leadership and outstanding customer service through innovation and collaboration. We will continue to strive to meet Toyota’s expectations through the automaker’s strict supplier standards and in technology, quality and delivery," said Salman.
