U.S. automotive suppliers exported $835 million in parts to the Chinese economic area in 2004, making the region one of the largest and fastest growing markets for U.S. parts manufacturers, according to the 2005 AASA Automotive Aftermarket Status Report. Produced annually by the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the 2005 Automotive Aftermarket Status Report offers a comprehensive snapshot of the market segment’s important contributions to the global economy.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — U.S. automotive suppliers exported $835 million in parts to the Chinese economic area in 2004, making the region one of the largest and fastest growing markets for U.S. parts manufacturers, according to the 2005 AASA Automotive Aftermarket Status Report.

Produced annually by the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the 2005 Automotive Aftermarket Status Report offers a comprehensive snapshot of the market segment’s important contributions to the global economy.

The report notes that the 2004 total parts exports to the area (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) represents a 16.4 percent increase over 2003 exports.

“This is the largest total value of U.S. automotive parts exports for the area in seven years and strengthens the trend to four consecutive years of increase,” said Frank Hampshire, AASA director of research. “The Chinese Economic Area continues to be the fourth largest area as a destination for U.S. auto parts,” he noted.

Automotive Aftermarket Status Report also includes a new do-it-yourself (DIY) section which examines DIY trends, different types of DIY repairs and much more about this critical segment of the aftermarket industry.

The annual AASA Automotive Aftermarket Status Report offers a comprehensive snapshot of the market segment’s important contributions to the global economy. The 2005 edition is sponsored by Industrial Marketing Research.

The AASA Automotive Aftermarket Status Report is the single source for current statistics and analysis of the trends shaping the aftermarket. In addition to the new section devoted to the DIY market, other sections of the report include:

• Summary of the global vehicle market

• Detailed analysis of the size of the aftermarket industry

• Analysis of the various aftermarket sub-sectors, which breaks down service work by product categories and explains where the work is being performed

• Update on unperformed maintenance

• Statistics on the Mexican and Canadian aftermarket industry

• AASA member directory

The report has been enhanced to include easy-to-understand summaries of each graph and chart and a description of the aftermarket for those new to the industry. The timing of the report’s release has been moved earlier in the year to provide manufacturers the ability to have the latest market research information and trends in time for their annual forecasting and budgeting for the upcoming year.

AASA Automotive Aftermarket Status Report is available to AASA members for $120; non-members can receive the Status Report for $500. Ordering information is available at the AASA Web site, www.aftermarketsuppliers.org, or e-mailing [email protected].
