PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Privately held manufacturer Cerion LLC has completed the purchase of the assets of Contech. It acquired Portage, Mich.-base Contech out of Chapter 11 reorganization. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Contech Castings LLC will continue to serve the global automotive market with highly-engineered lightweight die cast components. Contech process technologies include high-pressure die casting, squeeze casting and High-Q casting, as well as precision machining, heat treat and assembly. Major customers use Contech components in steering, powertrain, transmission and suspension systems, as well as lightweight structural body components.
Cerion is a privately-held manufacturing company headquartered in Plymouth, Mich., focused on acquiring and operating small and medium-sized precision manufacturing operations. The Contech purchase is Cerion’s third in the past seven months. In December 2008, Cerion purchased the precision machining subsidiary of EaglePicher Corp. and renamed the business Metavation. In March 2009, Cerion added advanced fineblanking and finishing capabilities with the acquisition of MPI International.
"Cerion is building a manufacturing-oriented business focused on providing customers in a variety of industries with world-class products and services," said Dave Doster, chief executive officer, Cerion LLC. "Contech is recognized as an industry technology leader and also has the strong customer relationships that Cerion values. We believe that this strategic acquisition will help us take another step toward our goal of being an industry-leading precision component and sub-assembly supplier."
