Long Island City, NY — Standard Motor Products announced that Blue Streak Electronics, Canadian manufacturer of the 2534 Global Programmer, has achieved the ISO/TS 16949: 2002 technical specification.

Developed by the international Automotive Task Force, an association of the major North American and European carmakers, ISO/TS 16949 was designed to harmonize the requirements of the members’ automotive quality standards QS-9000 (North America), VDA 6.1 (Germany) AVSQ (Italy) and EAQF (France). The Japanese vehicle manufacturers association (JAMA) was also involved in the development of ISO/TS 16949:2002. The goals of ISO/TS 16949 are to create a global quality system language, provide for global recognition of certificates and advantages of global sourcing, and to reduce multiple third party registrations.
“It also meets the parts and service requirements of most vehicle manufacturers and tier one suppliers,” said De Nobrega. “This enables Blue Streak Electronics to continue expanding its business opportunities as an original equipment supplier.”
All North American car manufacturers (GM, Ford and Chrysler) have placed a mandatory certification requirement to their existing suppliers to be compliant by December 15, 2006. Most international car manufacturers have also placed a mandatory certification requirement on their suppliers.

Blue Streak Electronics received the ISO900: 2000 certification prior to pursuing the ISO/TS 16949: 2002 conformance. The preparation process started in April of 2004 and was completed by December. The auditing process consisted of two stages. Stage one, first audit of quality system was completed in March, and stage two, second audit of quality system was completed in May.
