Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake to Consolidate Foundation Drum Brake, Air Disk Brake Production

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC has announced plans to begin operation of a new foundation brake production facility in the fourth quarter of 2007. The location of the new facility will be announced at a later date. Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake is a joint venture of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC and Dana Corp. Foundation drum brake (S-Cam) production will move from its current location at a Dana facility in Glasgow, KY. Air disc brake production will be transitioned from a Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC facility in Frankfort, KY. Bendix’s Frankfort facility, which also manufactures air compressors, is anticipated to shut down operation by late 2007.

ELYRIA, OH – Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC has announced plans to begin operation of a new foundation brake production facility in the fourth quarter of 2007. The location of the new facility will be announced at a later date.

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake is a joint venture of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC and Dana Corp. Foundation drum brake (S-Cam) production will move from its current location at a Dana facility in Glasgow, KY. Air disc brake production will be transitioned from a Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC facility in Frankfort, KY. Bendix’s Frankfort facility, which also manufactures air compressors, is anticipated to shut down operation by late 2007.

The location for the new Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake facility has not yet been finalized, although the company is evaluating sites in both Kentucky and Tennessee, within commuting distance of Glasgow.

“This announcement signifies the latest evolution in Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake’s continued growth,” said Kishor Pendse, president, Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake. “This new plant will provide us a business unit-focused manufacturing operation for our highest-volume and greatest growth-potential products. The move is a natural next step in our global manufacturing facilities strategy. We anticipate considerable synergy and efficiency to result.”

Pendse also stated the move will help fulfill the long-term goal of Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake to have full operational control of its foundation brake manufacturing processes.

Initially, the new facility will employ approximately 175, with continued growth expected as product demand and production expansion dictates.
