ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Coalition for Auto Repair Equality (CARE) has announced that AutoZone executive Steve Handschuh will join the aftermarket industry team promoting the passage of the Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act in the 109th Congress. CARE is a national organization representing aftermarket companies, including NAPA, Midas, CARQUEST, AutoZone, Advance Auto, Jiffy Lube, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and CSK Auto.

Handschuh told Counterman Editor Brian Cruickshank, “I am on executive loan to CARE and will be working closely with CARE and AAIA to get the Right to Repair legislation reintroduced into the new Congress and helping to rally industry support behind it.” His primary areas of responsibility will include industry communications, coalition-building and fund-raising. Handschuh added this will be a full-time position.

According to Art Lottes III, CARQUEST president and chairman of the CARE board of directors, Handschuh’s experience and solid reputation will be of great benefit to the campaign.

“Steve Handschuh is certainly well-respected within our industry and well-versed on the issues surrounding Right to Repair,” said Lottes. “Steve’s strategic thinking and planning, plus his managerial skills will prove to be an invaluable service to the entire industry coalition as we work together to make this much-needed legislation a reality.”

The Motor Vehicles Owners’ Right to Repair Act will be re-introduced in the House and Senate during the next session of Congress.
