ATD Honored with Environment+Energy Leader Award

ATD Honored with Environment+Energy Leader Award

ATD was recognized as a leader in sustainability because of its new tire recycling initiative.

American Tire Distributors, Inc. (ATD) announced it was named a winner in the 2023 Environment+Energy (E+E) Leader Awards program.

Environment+Energy Leader strives to promote a standard of responsible and sustainable business. They are committed to providing the leadership and resources to help companies and organizations grow within their own environment.

Every year, E+E Leader hosts a Solutions Summit to share and support smart business and sustainable solutions. The 2023 award winners were honored on July 18, 2023, at the beginning of the 8th annual summit.

“We are deeply honored to be recognized as an Environment+Energy Leader,” said ATD President and CEO Stuart Schuette. “This acknowledgment reflects our commitment to sustainable practices and our continuous pursuit of innovation. At ATD, we strive to be at the forefront of environmental stewardship, and we are proud of what our initiatives have accomplished.”

ATD was recognized as a leader in sustainability because of its new tire recycling initiative. This service involves picking up the scrap tires from retailers when new tires are delivered and then transporting them to recycling facilities. ATD says its delivery trucks have been specially designed to include a designated area called “Tire Alley” that separates new tires from scrap tires, allowing the used tires to be easily picked up during new tire deliveries. “This enables the trucks to be fully utilized in both directions, resulting in a reduction in overall greenhouse gas emissions in the ecosystem and per unit intensity,” the company says.

ATD says its tire recycling initiative is a circular effort that demonstrates its commitment to sustainable practices. By establishing this program to collect scrap tires, ATD is addressing the common challenge faced by retailers to find reliable and environmentally friendly pick-up services for scrap tires.
