From Tire Review Staff & Wire Reports
CINCINNATI — The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has ruled that a shareholder lawsuit against Bridgestone Corp. can move forward.
The consolidated lawsuit was filed in January 2001 by a pension fund for Monroe, Mich., city employees and a Colorado woman. It alleges that Bridgestone/Firestone made fraudulent statements about tire problems relating to the Firestone recall.
This recent decision overturns a previous lower court’s decision to throw out the lawsuit and sends the case back to District Court in Nashville, Tenn.
Company spokeswoman Christine Karbowiak said the appeals judges’ order returned the case back to the lower court for further review and did not rule on the substance of the case.
