American Tire Distributors Named to Inc. 5000 List of Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America

Huntersville, N.C.-based ATD, a leading distributor of tires to the national replacement tire market, ranked No. 13 on the list by revenues, and No. 25 on the list in terms of gross dollar growth. ATD posted revenues of nearly $2 billion in 2008, up 30.3 percent over the three-year period covered by Inc.'s analysis.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Tire Distributors (ATD) has been named to Inc. magazine’s 2009 list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America.

Huntersville, N.C.-based ATD, a leading distributor of tires to the national replacement tire market, ranked No. 13 on the list by revenues, and No. 25 on the list in terms of gross dollar growth. ATD posted revenues of nearly $2 billion in 2008, up 30.3 percent over the three-year period covered by Inc.’s analysis.

“It’s a great honor to be included in the Inc. 5000 ranking and a tribute to our 2,200 employees nationwide who have worked so hard to make ATD an effective partner to the thousands of locally owned tire dealers we are proud to call our customers,” said William “Bill” Berry, ATD’s president and chief executive officer. “We succeed when our dealers succeed, and that’s why we’re working harder than ever to ensure ATD has the products and programs our customers need.”

Following a decade of acquisition and growth, ATD currently supplies roughly 10 percent of all replacement tires sold in the United States.

Revenue growth numbers used in the Inc. 5000 rankings do not reflect the December 2008 acquisition of Am-Pac Tire Dist. Inc., which improved ATD’s ability to serve dealers in some existing markets and also expanded ATD’s geographic footprint to important new markets including St. Louis and western Texas. Am-Pac recorded revenues of $264.5 million for the full year of fiscal 2008.

Through its network of 82 distribution centers servicing all or part of 37 states, ATD currently supplies more than 40,000 products, including tires, custom wheels and related products to more than 35,000 active customers nationwide. In addition to offering an unmatched breadth and depth of products that independent dealers could not provide to their customers on a stand-alone basis, ATD also provides sales and marketing support services that allow locally owned dealers to compete effectively in their markets.
