MIDLAND, Mich. Members of the 2010-2011 class of the University of the Aftermarket Leadership 2.0 program reconvened yesterday on Northwood University’s campus in West Palm Beach, Fla., for nearly a full week of intensive learning, problem solving and networking. This year’s class includes 27 professionals representing virtually every level of the aftermarket, including manufacturing, distribution, association management and vehicle service.
Offered annually with significant financial support from the independent University of the Aftermarket Foundation, Leadership 2.0 is the motor vehicle aftermarket industry’s signature executive development experience. The program comprises two weeks of industry-focused study, discussion and skills development. Demand for admission to the program has set new records in each of the past four years.
Session II began with a keynote address by Pete Kornafel, vice chairman, CARQUEST Corp. Topics that will be covered throughout the week include “A Passion for Aftermarket Leadership,” “Aftermarket Economics,” “Group Leadership/Group Dynamics,” “Effective Negotiations” and “Ethical Dilemmas for Leaders.” In addition, University of the Aftermarket Director Brian Cruickshank, MAAP, will present an overview of key lessons learned from past Leadership 2.0 classes.
The highlight of Session II for many participants will be the presentation of team research projects completed during the intercession period. The winning team will go on to present its findings at the 2011 Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium, May 18-19 in Chicago.
“What makes Leadership 2.0 unique is the level of knowledge and enthusiasm each participant brings to the table,” Cruickshank said. “Every year participants tell me they have come away from this experience with a much deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, and they also have important new skills for use in addressing these issues.”
Exclusive to aftermarketNews, four participants in this week’s Leadership 2.0 experience will send reports from Palm Beach, blogging about their daily experiences in the program.
