ANDERSON, SC — Associated Fuel Pump Systems Corp. (AFCO) is investing an additional $20 million in its Anderson, S.C., manufacturing plant in order to support U.S. production of DENSO’s newly designed Grand Half (GH) automotive fuel pump. AFCO is a joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH of Germany and DENSO International America, Inc. that was established in 1989.
Launched in 2003 in Japan, the GH fuel pump achieves a 40 percent reduction in size and a 25 percent reduction in power consumption over conventional automotive fuel pumps, according to the company. With this investment, AFCO will introduce new manufacturing lines into its plant and start manufacturing this fuel pump in August 2005.
Wolfgang Simon, president of AFCO, said the company plans to produce about 5 million pumps in 2004. “We expect the new fuel pump will further expand our business in the United States,” said Simon.
