SHANGHAI, China BWI Group, which paid more than $90 million (US) for the suspension and brakes business line assets of Delphi Corp., is debuting at AUTO Components Shanghai 2010.
BWI Group is headquartered in southwestern Beijing, with over a dozen product development centers and manufacturing plants throughout Europe, North America and Asia.
"We have retained our management team and key technical talents. We have not lost any customers and, instead, we are bringing in new customers,” said Jianyi Fang, chairman and CEO of BWI Group. “We have been sorting out a big list of patents obtained through this purchase with an intent to better utilize them for product development, and we are ahead of schedule in meeting our first-year performance targets.”
AUTO Components Shanghai 2010 will be held at the Shanghai International Exhibition Center on June 21-23.
While BWI is leveraging its knowledge in the controlled magnetic damping for more applications, the company also is beefing up its product development all around after years of limitations while the suspension and brakes business were under Delphi, which had bankruptcy related financial constraints.
"We have talked to our customers and have emphasized our attention to their demands. While carrying out a bottom-line centered efficiency drive with a newly minted performance matrix, we are adding more product development people and are working to expand our product pipelines and new offerings," stated Daniel E. Warrell, vice president of BWI in charge of chassis products development, manufacturing, marketing and distributions.
According to Warrell, a GM-Delphi veteran, BWI has successfully continued in Delphi’s tradition as a major chassis component, module and systems integration supplier to an A-list of existing world-class OEMs. Those customers include SGM, BMW, Audi, Land Rover, PSA, GM Ford, Mini and Ferrari, and the company is now making progress penetrating the Chinese market through more investment in its China-based technological and manufacturing capabilities.
